Topgolf Opening First Florida Location in Tampa

Dec 3, 2013
The entertainment venue confirms it will break ground on site near Brandon in early 2014

TAMPA  – Dec. 3, 2013 – Golf entertainment leader Topgolf today officially unveiled Tampa as its 14th location worldwide and first location in Florida. Topgolf will begin construction on the 65,000-square-foot facility in the first quarter of 2014; the site is expected to open to the public in fall 2014. Topgolf Tampa will be located at 10690 Palm River Road, near the intersection of I-75 and the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway, 10 minutes east of downtown.

Topgolf is the only entertainment center of its kind, offering competitive golfing games for all ages and skill levels and advanced technology to track every player’s shots. Those who just want to relax can enjoy the upscale, laid-back ambience that boasts more than 230 high-definition flat-screen TVs and an extensive food and beverage menu.

“Tampa is undeniably one of the best outdoor cities in America, making it an ideal location for a year-round recreational activity like Topgolf,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Randy Starr. “We are thrilled to partner with such a fast-growing and thriving community for our first location in the state of Florida.”

The new three-level location – constructed by ARCO/Murray – will include up to 2,900 square feet of private event space and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays that can host up to six players at one time. Starr estimates that Topgolf Tampa will serve approximately 400,000 visitors in its first year of operation. Nearly half of all Topgolf guests describe themselves as “non-golfers.”

“On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, I am pleased to welcome Topgolf to our community,” said Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan. “This world-class sports and entertainment experience will be joining its neighbor, Bass Pro, as part of an overall regional entertainment destination venue to be located in the Brandon area of unincorporated Hillsborough County. In less than a year from the Board’s engagement to assist in roadway improvements, the validation of that decision comes with this second announced project initiative with Topgolf.”

Founded in 2000, Topgolf welcomed its 10 millionth visitor in history last month. The company has introduced more people to the game of golf than any other concept. Topgolf’s economic impact in its local communities is also remarkable, creating hundreds of jobs at each location and serving as an anchor tenant that tends to attract other popular franchises to the area. In fact, its economic output in Tampa alone is expected to exceed $264.5 million over a 10-year-period, according to a third-party audit.
