Topgolf Hosting U.K.’s First Electronically Tracked Pro-Am

The PGA has added Topgolf to its 2014 Pro-Am schedule

LONDON – Jan. 22, 2014 – Golf entertainment leader Topgolf International, Inc. today announced that the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) has added Topgolf® to its 2014 Pro-Am schedule. This will be the first PGA event in the U.K. to be played using microchipped golf balls and electronic targets.

The Pairs Pro-Am will take place on Tuesday 11th March at Topgolf Surrey, with a 5 p.m. shotgun start and 9:30 p.m. finish. Professionals and amateurs will compete in the one-day event comprising four different games of Topgolf.

Players aim for 11 dartboard-like targets on a 240-yard outfield, hitting 20 balls per game. Points are scored based on the distance and accuracy of each shot. The closer to the centre of a target and the farther out the ball goes, the more points the player receives.

Teams will compete in pairs of one amateur and one professional. The entry fee is £70, which includes four games of Topgolf, a Topgolf buffet and various prizes awarded for team and individual performance, in addition to a professional individual prize fund of £1000 (based on 20 teams). Entry deadline is 18th February 2014.

“We organise and run 160 days of golf throughout the year, and this event will be completely different to anything else we’ve done before,” said Mark Spratt, tournament controller for the PGA in England (South). “It’s innovative and fun and just what the Pro-Am needs.”
