Topgolf Aiming for Kansas City

May 20, 2014
The entertainment venue confirms it will break ground on Overland Park site next month

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – May 20, 2014 – Golf entertainment leader Topgolf International, Inc. today officially unveiled Kansas City as its 20 th location worldwide and first in Kansas. Topgolf® will begin construction on the 65,000-square-foot facility the first week of June; the site is expected to open to the public in spring 2015.

Topgolf Overland Park will be located at 10611 Nall Avenue in Overland Park, just north of I-435 and two miles from Sprint Corporation headquarters. This month Topgolf purchased the land for the development, which was funded through Topgolf’s investors and EPR Properties (NYSE: EPR), a specialty real estate investment trust (REIT) with total investments over $3.6 billion and also based in Kansas City.

Topgolf is the only entertainment center of its kind, offering competitive golfing games for all ages and skill levels and advanced technology to track players’ shots. Those who just want to relax can enjoy the upscale, laid-back ambiance that boasts more than 230 high-definition flat-screen TVs and an extensive food and beverage menu.

“Kansas City is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, and the Overland Park site we chose is a strong hub for business and entertainment,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Randy Starr. “We are excited to bring our unique concept to Kansas City as it will offer another entertainment venue for residents and corporations.”

The new three-level location – constructed by ARCO/Murray – will include up to 3,000 square feet of private event space and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays that can host up to six players at one time. Starr estimates that Topgolf Overland Park will serve approximately 450,000 visitors in its first year of operation. Nearly half of all Topgolf guests describe themselves as “non-golfers.”

“Providing leisure activities for the Overland Park community and business traveler, including those at the Overland Park Convention Center, is essential. Topgolf’s entry into the metropolitan market further propels Overland Park as a destination. From occasional to dedicated golfers, Topgolf’s incorporation of the newest technology is sure to improve one’s game and provide entertainment for those wanting to have fun with family members or friends,” said City of Overland Park Mayor Carl Geralch.

Founded in 2000, Topgolf welcomed its 10 millionth visitor in history last November. Topgolf’s economic impact in its local communities is also remarkable, creating hundreds of jobs at each location and serving as an anchor tenant that tends to attract other popular franchises to the area. In fact, its economic output in Kansas City alone is expected to exceed $264.5 million over a 10-year-period, according to a third-party audit.
