Topgolf is Aiming for Portland Market

The global golf entertainment company will break ground this spring in Hillsboro

PORTLAND – May 7, 2015 – Golf entertainment leader Topgolf International, Inc. today officially unveiled Hillsboro as its first location planned in the Pacific Northwest. Topgolf® will begin construction on the 65,000-square-foot facility this week; the venue is expected to open to the public in late spring 2016.

Topgolf Hillsboro will be located at the southeast corner of Highway 26 and NW Brookwood Parkway. The location is minutes away from Ron Tonkin Field and numerous corporate offices, including Nike and Intel. Topgolf is leasing 13 acres from Majestic Realty and breaking ground on the location this week.

Topgolf is the only entertainment center of its kind, offering competitive golfing games for all ages and skill levels and advanced technology to track players’ shots. Those who just want to relax can enjoy the upscale, laid-back ambiance that boasts more than 230 high-definition flat-screen TVs and an extensive food and beverage menu.

“Hillsboro is a best-in-class, business-friendly city that allows Topgolf to tap into the Portland market,” said Topgolf Vice President of Real Estate Zach Shor. “The city offers a strong daytime population and office presence, fantastic demographics, and an entertainment draw with the Hillsboro Hops. We are excited to bring the community another option for recreation.”

The new three-level location will include up to 3,000 square feet of private event space and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays that can host up to six players at one time. Shor estimates that Topgolf Hillsboro will serve approximately 450,000 visitors in its first year of operation. Nearly half of all Topgolf guests describe themselves as “non-golfers.”

“We are excited about Topgolf coming to Hillsboro,” said Hillsboro City Manager Michael Brown. “Topgolf meets our community’s desire to have major attractions in our hometown for our residents, business employees and clients, and tourists. Having Topgolf in our community adds another major recreational and entertainment destination conveniently accessible to U.S. Highway 26.”

Topgolf’s economic impact in its local communities is remarkable, creating 450 full- and part-time jobs at each location and serving as an anchor tenant that tends to attract other businesses to the area. In fact, its economic output in Hillsboro alone is expected to exceed $264.5 million over a 10-year-period, according to a third-party audit.
