Located off of I-45, TopGolf Houston North will be the company’s sixth Texas facility. Topgolf is scheduled to break ground on the site this week and open to the public just in time for summer next year.
“The Topgolf team has been blown away by the support the Houston community has shown us these past six months,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Randy Starr. “We are excited to bring another entertainment venue to north Houston and serve as an amenity to the thousands of people who will be working at the new ExxonMobil headquarters across the freeway.”
Topgolf’s first facility in Houston, located at 1030 Memorial Brook Blvd., opened in December. It has since been recognized as one of the city’s most influential real estate projects when it was awarded the Houston Business Journal’s 2013 Landmark Award for the hospitality/entertainment category. As of this publication, TopGolf ranks #19 of 152 attractions in Houston on the popular travel website TripAdvisor®. At 65,000 square feet, the Topgolf Houston North facility will mirror its predecessor.
Topgolf is the only entertainment center of its kind, offering competitive golfing games for all ages and skill levels and advanced technology to track every player’s shots. Those who just want to relax can enjoy the upscale, laid-back ambiance that boasts more than 230 high-definition flat-screen TVs and an extensive food and beverage menu crafted by executive chef Mark Boyton.
The new three-level facility will include up to 2,900 square feet of private event space and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays that can host up to six players at one time. Starr estimates that Topgolf Houston North will serve approximately 400,000 visitors in its first year of operation. Nearly half of all Topgolf guests describe themselves as “non-golfers.”
“We are thrilled to be welcoming a second Topgolf location to Houston,” said Greg Ortale, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It’s great to know that visitors have multiple options – depending on where they are staying in the Houston area – to golf at this unique attraction. Topgolf Houston North will contribute further to Houston’s position as a prime recreational and leisure tourist destination.”
Founded in 2000, Topgolf’s popularity has been soaring in the U.S. More than 1.5 million people played the game in 2012. Its economic impact in the community is also remarkable, creating hundreds of jobs at each location and serving as an anchor tenant that tends to attract other popular franchises to the area. In fact, with its second location, Topgolf’s economic output in Houston alone is expected to exceed $529 million over a 10-year-period, according to a third-party audit.
